Elegant in its understatement, Acoustic gives more than enough room for the purity of Billy Raffouls’ voice to shine through, the single pairing to his guitar playing skills being all that’s needed.

In keeping in touch with the grounded simplicity of the track, Raffoul knew exactly what to produce, creating the video himself – showing a romance that’s just honest, loved and in no way messy. The entire filming is done through the guitar’s soundhole – the audience watching as Billy Raffoul woos the girl in the video – although there are nice touches of a reflection that show the outward perspective of Raffoul as he plays. But it’s the vibration of the guitar strings against a backdrop of being at home, of watching his girlfriend, and being in the city that’s most eye-catching and memorable.
In having a narrowed viewpoint, you come to realise the soundhole is in actuality a symbol of how Raffoul is viewing the world – he’s in love – and as such his attention is revolving around her.
In a story of inspiration Raffoul – who debuted in 2017 with the single Driver – came to be discovered through his stellar performance as a backing singer to Kid Rock demos. His magnetic voice instantly impressing those in the studio who connected him to his now manager. Since then Raffoul’s featured with a variety of artists including Kygo, Avicii and American Authors, and with the videos having been viewed by millions.
A singer/songwriter, Raffoul’s naturally rough voice gives an edge to the raw tones that evoke an imagery of rock legends. But combined with the toned-down instruments that accompany his seductive lyrics, it’s as if he’s built to melt your heart – many of his songs in fact being romantic in nature. Raffoul’s songs are produced with an effortless charm that will have you picking up a guitar to join in, or in my case to just sway and look for a lighter to hold up in the air.
