This is the highly anticipated collaboration between Elderbrook and Rudimental. Equal fans of one another, they beautifully combine dance and electronic in a way that has the usual rhythmic dance beats, whilst keeping a softer side within it.
Something About You follows in line with the rest of Elderbrook’s work in focusing on music that “…explores the introspective themes of human connection,” which is certainly something director Luke Davies has collaborated in showing. The music video visually resonating with the song to create something captivating.
Opening on a group of men reluctant to participate in, or even be involved in discussing any issues relating to emotions and mental health – the video emphasises the well-known stigma that men should never cry, be sad, angry or lost – and as the first man breaks free from this restraint, so too do the others. Tired, they at first begin with a body pose associated with strength and heroes, and in this it shows that nothing has been lost, and instead they’ve gained from speaking out and finding a connection and solace with others. The video ends with a sensation of being freed from social-cultural-restrictions, whilst being completely entranced by the simple elegance of their movements.
It doesn’t hurt that the lead dancer is British actor Michael Socha, whose highly varied work shows off his skill levels, just as the video shows off his dance moves.
Elderbrook (the stage name for Alexander Kotz) debuted as an instrumentalist music sensation in 2015 with EP Simmer Down. A singer/songwriter, Elderbrook also produces his own work whilst coming from a classically trained background. Essentially he knows what he’s doing, with his nominations for both a Grammy and an Ivor Novello further amplifying this.

Rudimental, founded in 2010 is a four-member (Kesi Dryden, Piers Agget, Locksmith and Amir Amor) drum and bass success that stormed straight into platinum levels with their debut album Home (2013). Multi-award winning, they include in their list a MOBO and Brit Award. Their albums reading like a who’s who of collaborations that include John Newman, Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sandé, among many others.
